ARROW 783 CASTLE 396 HANNIBAL 394 COVERT AFFAIRS 344 HAWAII FIVE-O 234 SHERLOCK 226 MURDOCH MYSTERIES 173 CRIMINAL MINDS 157 PERSON OF INTEREST 154 THE BLACKLIST 150 ELEMENTARY 129, RIZZOLI & ISLES 126, GREY'S ANATOMY 105, THE MENTALIST 90, DOWNTON ABBEY 81, CHICAGO FIRE 74, REVENGE 72, THE NEWSROOM 68, REPUBLIC OF DOYLE 51, PARENTHOOD 45, THE KILLING 43 The Best Action or Drama actor category had 1 of the few notable upsets of recent memory last year when secondary star John barrowman of Arrow beat out his own shows lead, and the defending 2 time winner Nathan Fillion from Castle to take the award. This year, those same top 3 finalists from last year are back & in the serious mix for this years honour. Joining them are 1st time finalist Christopher Gorham from Covert Affairs who finished 2nd to Stephen Amell from Arrow for the semi-final vote, and Mads Mikkelsen from hannibal, who finished 4th, a spot higher than he finished in the finals of last years vote. While the top 5 from last year all made the finals this year, the bottom half of last years top 10 was not so lucky, only 7th place James Spader from The Blacklist & 10th place Hugh Dancy from hannibal is returning. Ousted were Johnny Lee Miller of Elementary, Matthew Gray Gubler from Criminal Minds and Jim Caviezel from Person of Interest. New to the party besides Gorham are, Paul Blackthorne and Colton Haynes from Arrow, giving them FOUR finalists. Yannick Bisson from Murdoch Mysteries, and Ben McKenzie from the rookie drama Gotham. The Best Action Or Drama Actress category has been the "Stana Katic Award" since its inception in 2011 as the actress from Castle has won all 3 times, making her the only actor or actress to win her award every year since its existence. But this year, it might not go her way if Emily Bett Rickards from Arrow has any say in it. The leading vote getting in the semi-finals had more than Katic & 3rd place fellow Arrow cast member Susanna Thompson combined. Three more Arrow cast made the finals with Caity Lotz in 4th, Willa Holland in 5th & Katie Cassidy in 12th, giving Arrow FIVE finalists. Surely vote splitting will be a major concern for the finalists there, giving Katic a bit of a chance still as she was the only finalist from Castle with Molly Quinn just missing out by 5 votes. Despite the seemingly lopsided rrow & Stana Katic race, there are other contenders. Lucy Liu from Elementary finished 3rd last year in the finals to Katic & Rickards, and comes in this year in 6th in the semi-finals. Amy Acker of Person Of Interest was also a finalist last year, finishing 5th and narrowly made it in this year in 11th. Grace Park finished 6th last year & finished 8th in this years semi-finals. Other newcomers besides the 4 newcomers from Arrow include Pauley Perrette from NCIS, Maggie Smith from Downton Abbey and Helene Joy from Murdoch Mysteries. Two finalists from last year Ellen Pompeo from Grey's Anatomy & Kerry Washington from Scandal failed to make the finals this year, along with Celina Jade from Arrow & Taraji P. Henson from Person Of Interest who are no longer eligible. The Best Action or Drama Program category will again look like a fight between the defending champion Arrow & the former 2 time champion Castle. Perennial contender Criminal Minds finished 3rd last year and finished 8th in the semi-final voting to make it 5 consecutive years in the finals, the ONLY Drama to have done so. Last years New Program runner up Hannibal finished 3rd in the semi-final vote, cementing itself as a contender this year. In 4th is 1st time finalist Covert Affairs. Joining Covert Affairs on the 1st time finalist list is Sherlock, Murdoch Mysteries & The Blacklist. Only 5 of last years finalists made it to the finals this year. Missing the mark this time were retired Breaking Bad, along with Rookie Blue, Elementary, Grey's Anatomy & The Mentalist. The Finals for these categories will take place in January 2015 HERE

There are 8 challengers who made the finals last year that also have made the finals this year. Included in that bunch is last years runner up Benedict Cumberbatch and 3rd place challenger Colin O'Donoghue. Two finalists were not even nominees last year, Tom Hiddleston & Chris Pratt. Last years 4th place finisher, Misha Collins, missed the finals by 11 votes. With 3 different winners in the 3 years of this award, Sexiest Actress might be on the verge of going 4 for 4 if the semi-finals are a sign of what the finals will bring. Despite the strong penalties against Zoie Palmer and Anna Silk for the ineligible vote penalties of the nomination round, both of them managed to finish 1st & 2nd in this category. However, they still will have penalties against them in the finals. At least going into the finals.... they look the the pair to beat for the award. The last 2 Sexiest Actress winners Jennifer Lawrence & Stana Katic are again in the finals in 3rd & 4th. However, the first ever winner Erica Durance, did not make the finals this year. Like the men, 8 of last years finalists made this years finals. The highest ranked finalist last year to not make it this year was Olivia Wilde, as she did not even make the semi-finals this year. The finals for these categories will take place in January 2015 HERE. The Best Of TV Awards 2013 winner in the category of Best Action or Drama Actor is John Barrowman "Arrow". A mild upset in thie castegory as the defending 2-time champion was knocked off by 1st time finalist from "Arrow" John Barrowman. With 566 votes Barrowman, who brings vendetta driven evil mastermind Malcolm Merlyn to life on the CW program came roaring from behind. In the early days, was dead last, but came on strong in the final 4 days & especially the last 2 days when he cut a 27 vote defifict to win to eventual runner up Nathan Fillion "Castle" with 556 votes. In 3rd was the star of "Arrow" Stephen Amell with 474 votes. In 4th was Alex O'Loughlin "Hawaii Five-O". In 5th was Mads Mikkelsen "Hannibal". In 6th was Jonny Lee Miller "Elementary". Day 1 had Mikkelsen with the lead twice, Amell, O'Loughlin & Fillion also held leads. Day 2 had Mikkelsen & Amell switch leads. Day 3 & 4 was Fillion leading. Day 5, 6 & 7 was Fillion & Barrowman flipping leads several times before Barrowman took the lead with about 3 hours left & never gave it back. John Barrowman winning by only 10 votes is a category record for smallest margain of victory. Previous record was 132 held by Nathan Fillion in 2011. Below are the results from the voting on the nominees that decided the challengers in this tournament that did not get automatic spots (automatic spots were given to all BOTVA award winners & former May Madness winners) The Best Actor in an Action Or Drama series of 2012 as voted by you the fans was.. NATHAN FILLION "CASTLE".
Winning the award for a 2nd time, Fillion has really not had too much in the way of challenge so far. Last year Hugh Laurie from "House" posed a bit of a threat, but was eventually thwarted, this year it was Alex O'Loughlin from "Hawaii Five-O" won the semi-final vote, however the wave of Castle fans flooded in & by the end of day 2 of the finals voting I knew in my mind this was over already. The man who brings crime fwriter turned crime fighter Richard Castle to life had enough nerve wracking moments this year to display his acting chops, whether it was engaging in romantic scenes with his co-star, staring down possible death or being a traumatized father seeing his daughter 1/2 dressed at a science fiction convention, Castle had a wild year & Fillion delivered it as well as anyone could.. Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson from "Person Of Interest" along with Bruce Campbell of "Burn Notice" were the other finalists and well back of the top 2 in the finals. Nathan Fillion beat runner up Alex O'Loughlin by 1127 votes, back in 3rd was Jim Caviezel 365 votes behind the runner up & only 8 votes ahead of 4th place Bruce Campbell. Rounding out the finalists was Michael Emerson 200 votes behind Nathan Fillion defends his title. Interestingly, there was 3 seperate leaders for the 3 rounds of voting. Alex O'Loughlin won the semi-finals round, Jim Caviezel won the nomination round. Fillion is the only finalist from last year in this years finals. Bruce Campbell is the only finalist not even nominated last year. Final vote totals Nathan Fillion "Castle" 2173 Alex O'Loughlin "Hawaii Five-O" 1046 Jim Caviezel "Person Of Interest" 681 Bruce Campbell "Burn Notice" 673 Michael Emerson "Person Of Interest" 473 |
